CALVIN “UNKO” YANG
Honolulu, HI
Aloha! My name is Calvin, and I am currently an undergraduate studying Biology and Business Management at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Being born and raised in one of the most diverse Hawaiian Islands gave me the knowledge and deep appreciation for the land, people, history, and culture. Growing up, I mostly stayed at home with my little brother, and we would play video games all day. Our parents would always be working, so they didn’t have the time to take us out. It wasn’t until high school when I finally got the chance to drive and explore the rest of the island.
I still remember the first DSLR camera I owned, and that was back in high school when Instagram was the number one hype. Most of the cool kids in school were the ones who owned a camera because they were posting all these fresh content on Instagram. I had the Canon T5i during my second year in high school, and it was my goto camera whenever I’m hanging out with friends or trying to come up with artsy ideas to capture. That was also when I got into portraits because my friends would ask me to take their pictures for their Instagram page.
I joined Oahu Photography Tour several months ago, and I can honestly say that this is the best job I’ve ever had. I began to love the job more when I found the importance of socializing with guests from all over the world. I love sharing my stories and telling people where my favorite local restaurants are, and they would get so excited. I have to say that the best place to grab a Poke bowl is at Ono Seafood. Also, I recommend Lanikai Pillbox if you’re a morning person who also enjoys hiking.
I hope I can make your experience in Hawai’i fun and memorable!
