Is it time for you to get away from your stressful, fast-paced lifestyle? Hop on a plane and leave it all behind by visiting Oahu, Hawaii’s most popular island for tourists. If you love the beach, sunsets and lush, gorgeous forests, you’ll love Oahu. You may be wondering what activities this island offers, so we’ll let you in on a few of our favorites:
Swim With Dolphins
Few experiences are as magical as swimming with dolphins. In Honolulu, you can swim alongside Wild Spinner dolphins, which are truly glorious creatures. Like humans, dolphins are sensitive and intelligent and they also love to have a good time. You also may have the pleasure of spotting sea turtles and colorful fish as well.
Visit The Iolani Palace
Prior to Hawaii’s annexation into the United States, this island was ruled by a monarchy. The Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu housed Hawaiian royalty, including the famous Queen Liliuokalani. When the monarchy was overthrown, the palace transformed into the provisional government headquarters. Meticulously restored, this gorgeous structure is truly something to see.
Go For An Amazing Hike
When on vacation, it’s quite common to overindulge in the local cuisine as well as vacation drinks. In fact, we encourage you to enjoy all the delicious fare our island has to offer, so if you need a little exercise to burn off the extra calories, check out Diamond Head. Here, you’ll climb to find the most gorgeous views of the city skyline and the beautiful plant life of Oahu.
Walk The Waikiki Beach Walk
Are staying at one of the hotels alongside the coast of Waikiki? Make sure to have an umbrella drink in hand as you stroll the Waikiki Beach Walk. Paved with sand, you can enjoy the beautiful shoreline views without having to change out of your swimsuit. If you’re thirsty, you’ll pass plenty of beach bars to help you quench your thirst.
Visit Pearl Harbor
When the U.S. military base at Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared it as a ”day which will live in infamy.” Many innocent U.S. soldiers lost their lives on this day, sparking the country’s decision to fight against the Axis in World War II. Visit the memorial to learn more about our country’s history and to mourn the lives lost in the attack.
Famous for its surfing, tourists flock from all over the world to learn this challenging water sport. The most seasoned surfers like to hit up the North Shore to surf waves as big as 85 feet, but other areas in the island contain more beginner-friendly waves. If you’re interested in surfing, join one of the island’s many surf camps.
