Oahu Photography Tours’ Epic Sunset Island Tour not only positions you in perfect timing to capture a brilliant sunset, but you get to take pictures of the sun-rays as they touch and graze the topography of Oahu Island’s Windward side.
Your Day at a Glance
Begin your journey high above Waikiki at Tantalus lookout to soak in panoramic views extending from Diamond Head to Pearl Harbor, with the vast, blue ocean as a backdrop.
Then, driving over the H-3, Hawaii’s third and last highway to be built on Oahu Island, you’ll be amazed by the breathtaking vistas. This 16-mile roadway carves through the Ko’olau Mountains, meaning we’ll be passing through impressive tunnel structures that carry a sense of weight unique to spaces opened beneath the strong rock. Motioning through the tunnels of Ko’olau Mountain, we emerge in lush Haiku Valley. You might even spot some hikers on the famous Stairway to Heaven trail.
Byodo-in Temple is our next stop, and you’ll adore the awesome beauty. The Byodo-in Temple is a scale replica of a temple originally built in Uji Japan over 900 years ago. Beautiful and intricate architecture is embraced by lively gardens and placed against the backdrop of the Ko’olau Ridge. The spirit of this location is truly palpable and benefits all visitors with a spirit of inner peace, serenity, and of course by providing the gift of beautiful images.
Centered and inspired, you’ll be brought up close and personal with the Ko’olau Mountains for an unforgettable experience with this pregnant landscape. You’ll understand why this location was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1972 because preserving the pure quality of this natural feat is worth appreciating. Anyone looking for memorable things to do in Oahu will feel the value in sharing space with the majestic Ko’olau Mountains.
We’ll continue on to Waimanalo Bay Beach Park to visit the longest uninterrupted white-sand beach on Oahu. Get your cameras ready to snap some photos rich in natural content! These beaches are even lined with old growth Australian ironwood trees. A truly unique view!
After all of the excitement, the Epic Sunset Island Tour will take a break to satisfy our appetites at Ono Steaks & Shrimp, which specializes in Hawaiian and Hawaii-inspired dishes. All meals are prepared with locally produced and local-conscious ingredients.
Afterwards, we’ll head over to Makapu’u Lookout and Beach to capture the stunning landscape of East Oahu. This is one of the favorite spots for people taking a Hawaii photography tour. You’ll get the chance to see tide pools, late-stage volcanic eruptions, and, depending on the time of year, you may even spot a Humpback whale! Be prepared to capture vibrant blue waves crashing into one of the most unique rock formations in the world!
After stopping for snacks and refreshments, we’ll prepare to photograph Hawaii’s most epic sunset on the Eastern tip of Oahu, where you’ll capture the sun dropping down the sky along the sea cliff walls. The beauty can only be witnessed, not described on our Epic Sunset Island Tour of Hawaii!
